Description

History of Thurbo Tea Estate:

This Darjeeling tea garden was planted in the year 1872. The name of the garden relates to a historic event which may have originated when the British set up a camp in the garden at the time of their Nepal invasion and used camps or tents which in local language is called ‘Tombu’, and this may later have developed as ‘Thurbo’. Hence the name Thurbo Tea Estate. Other sources of name and its meaning remains elusive.

Teas of Thurbo Tea Garden:

Thurbo Tea Estate produces one of the best Darjeeling Teas and its range includes

• First Flush Teas

• Second Flush Teas

• Autumn Flush Teas

Thurbo is believed to derive its name from the word "Tombu" which means tent in the local language. Situated in the idyllic Mirik region, very close to the Nepalese border the garden enjoys panoramic views of the Kanchenjunga and is laced with rivers and rivulets. The weather in the garden is usually cold with little sunshine for a few months in the year. The indigenous clonal teas have unique character; this combined with other 'jats' like P316 & AV2 grow matchless autumnal teas. Thurbo teas are imbued with a rare, delicate fragrance and command premium prices. The 'Chinas' are bright and flavoursome, while the Assam hybrids are rounded and sweet. The autumn flush is redolent with a delicate & mellow flavour.
